Tuxedo Park's story starts in 1911, when developer Charles H. Black Sr. bought 300 acres along West Paces Ferry Road for $75,000, laying the groundwork for what would become Buckhead's most storied neighborhood. The name was borrowed from the original Tuxedo Park community in New York, reflecting an era's ambition to build a neighborhood of grand homesites and lasting architectural character. The area is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and its architecture spans Georgian, Tudor, Italianate, and Greek Revival styles. A mix that gives the neighborhood its distinctive, collected-over-generations feel rather than a single builder's stamp.

Past and present residents have included golfer Bobby Jones and Florida congressman William Lamar, and Georgia's governor has long called Tuxedo Park home; the Governor's Mansion itself sits on West Paces Ferry Road, on land once part of the same original tract.

What Living Here Is Actually Like

The Tuxedo Park Civic Association’s comprehensive private security program provides a level of protection and safety not present in most City of Atlanta neighborhoods.
